Karen Marston began hosting NURTUREart's Muse Fuse meetings in her studio in the Fall of 2002 and joined the Board of this grassroots non-profit shortly thereafter. She was instrumental in the opening of the NURTUREart Gallery in 2003 which has ushered in several years of exciting expansion for the organization. Karen currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees.

Muse Fuse was conceived as an open forum and pooling of resources to create a professional support and networking association for emerging artists and curators. It is envisioned as a creative salon where artists, curators and other arts professionals meet to exchange ideas and information, discussing everything from the practical to the philosophical. Each meeting features an interesting talk; recent speakers have included Ursula von Rydingsvard, Paige West, Joao Ribas, Lowell Pettit, Amy Rosenblum Martin, Jackie Battenfield, Matthew Deleget, Cristin Tierney, Mark Beasely and many other notable guests.

Muse Fuse is only one of several strong programs offered by NURTUREart including an Artists Registry featuring over 1200 emerging artists, the NURTUREart Gallery (located at 910 Grand St. in Williamsburg), presenting a full season of exhibitions by emerging curators utilizing the registry, and an Education Outreach program bringing artists into local schools.
